According to a recent story in the New York Times, thousands of patients each year may be undergoing unnecessary arthroscopic knee surgery, say two studies published in this week’s New England Journal of Medicine. According to researchers, the surgery provides no more relief for arthritis patients than medication and physical therapy. Approximately 1 million arthroscopic knee surgeries are performed in the United States each year.
